PD Traveller Query - Meeting of Universes ?

Post by domingojs23 »

Dear Jean, Steve and Friends,

Assuming the release of PD Mongoose Traveller, and let's say we organize a gaming session in a convention or other public venue, would it be legally permissable under the current SFU license / intellectual property framework to use elements of the official Mongoose Traveller universe setting (the "OTU") in the said session ? For example, would it be permissible to have a PD Federation Prime Team encounter a Zhodani unit in the course of the session (let's say somehow a Zhodani ship found its way into UFP space through some sort of time-space anomaly), and that the GM and players have with them the Zhodani and other OTU setting sourcebooks alongside PD Traveller materials ?

And, for that matter, would it be ok to use elements of the other MGT sourcebooks covering Judge Dredd, Babylon 5, Hammers' Slammers and Strontium Dog, in a public PD Traveller game ?

Thanks !

What you do at your own table without our knowledge or support is not our concern. What you do with two legally published products from the same publisher is by definition legal.

You'd perhaps (if you tried really hard) get (us) into trouble if you used (any) Prime Directive in a paid event and made up your own Kirk, Spock, Cardassians, and other Paramount stuff that we don't have rights to AND advertised it as a ADB-Sponsored (or Mongoose-sponsored) event and handed out prizes you got from ADB or Mongoose. Presumably, you'd get the prizes from us without telling us that you plan to violate Paramount's copyrights (since if you told us that you were doing that, we'd tell you not to, or at least, not to claim we officially sponsored the event).
