Gorn Diplomatic Cruiser
Hi,
Was there ever an SSD created for a Gorn Diplomatic Cruiser (either in SFB or FedCom) If not, what would some ideas to convert an existing one to such a ship?
Thanks

Thanks! Since I didn't see anything in the Ship Chart, I figured it didn't exist; so I'll look at the Klingon ships. I might have to go with something else anyway as I want it for a scenario I would like to write up.Steve Cole wrote:Well, nobody built a diplomatic cruiser other than the Klingons, but if you compare a D7N to a standard D7 with refits you'd get a pretty good list of the universal upgrade package for any empire's diplomatic cruiser.
I agree Magnum357: More Gorn!

Here is a rough outline, based on SFB data compiled by Steve Petrick....
1. Give the ship every refit that the standard cruiser is eligible for, especially defensive ones (phaser-3s, anti-drones). Klingon ships lose the shuttle bay drone racks as diplomatic ships need more shuttles.
2. Add one crew unit (diplomatic passengers) and one prime team. If the ship has a lot of boarding parties, reduce by two.
3. One shuttle is "VIP" which has no game function. One is a ground assault shuttle to carry the bodyguards. One is a fighter to escort the VIPs. Once gunboats come into service, add two mech links, one for a standard combat gunboat and the other for a diplomatic VIP gunboat (see Klingon G1N for comparison).
4. There is no improvement in command rating.

The Guy Who Designed Fed Commander

On a side note, the R-section for the Federation VIP transport (or FFP; a frigate variant published for SFB in Module R2) notes that the Feds sometimes used that ship on diplomatic missions. Reportedly, they felt that purposely using a smaller ship than the Klingon diplomatic cruisers would demonstrate the power and security of the Federation.
Perhaps other empires might have gone for something in between these two options, for the purposes of choosing a Gorn ship class for your scenario?

All good information!
I probably posted too hastily though as I had my ship roles reversed and probably wouldn't need a Gorn Diplo Cruiser...but again, the information is good.
I should probably run the scenario idea by the Steve's before I do too much work on it...it's a bit unconventional, but I feel would still be enjoyable.
