Dream Chasers Playtest Group Log

Post by kehrer1701 »

My old group, after a few sessions of TravPD, wanted to continue the Gurps version....which is fine. But I used the opportunity to "promote" a new GM and let them continue on (and maybe have a character guest star role from time to time). So, I've started a new group to continue the TravPD playtesting. Going to use this thread for various general updates but then specific topics for details where applicable. Stay tuned...

For new players: Here is my provide list, for reference
I provide all files Al has uploaded.
Then add.

The scenario I've built revolves around a "Captain's Holiday" to a mysterious planet that sensors reveal is heavily populated, mid-evil era tech, and a strange energy emulates from and around the planet. The binary moons also play apart in the adventure. The mission starts out at "The Captain's Table," a local bar and grill hot spot on Earth where Captain's hang out to just be "regular person" but swap stories of adventure.

Celena and I spoke at length tonight in prep for gaming sessions. Task one is to use the material what we all have to create characters. We are only using the provided material PLUS the Trav Official character sheet AND the Traveller Explorers's Edition game (but only using that last one IF we can't find what we need in the original material (thus making a note that we need to get it added to the playtest.).

Campaign Overview:

A group of starship captains meet once a year (if on Earth or in Earth Orbit) at a bar tucked away in part of the city (Fed HQ, or similar as I believe the SFU it's Earth Orbit?) called "The Captain's Table." Once there, they are approached about knowledge about a planet with a mystery: on this planet, any kind of technology doesn't work. What's interesting is that there is evidence of a "super technology" that may have existed at one time; but now the planet is reflects more of a sword and sorcery environment.

The Mission...a Captain's Holiday Mystery, is to go to the planet, solve the puzzle, and recover any hidden, ancient tech to help the Federation in it's pursuit of protection for all.

Making use of my hard copies of the PD Supplement, Complete Datafile, and Core Rulebook for my character creation. Taking longer than expected, but coming along with focus on Captain level character creation.

The sole benefit of seeing one of the other system books is to get a good feel for the overall. Seeing what the goal looks like really helps when you are working through the individual parts of the book.

So, I started work on rolling up the traditional way for Traveller character creation. I will say the Trav character gen system is the most difficult I've done..but that mostly comes from the fact you are rolling up the "pre-history" before the campaign even begins.

The character, Mark T. KaSteel (Human Male), is working to become a Scout.
I rolled the character stats, added the modifiers, and then picked by skills along the way. I just finished the Pre-Career/ Univesity Term graduating sucessfully and graduated with honors. The benefit is EDU got bumped a few times.

Stalled out at this point determing next steps. I want to pursue Scout, Explorer.

More to come as I work thru it.

Being new to this way of character creation, it's definitely a big learning curve.

Sadly, our group is on hold; however, I will continue to be open to reading material and offering comments, creating characters, etc.
