WYN "Moby Dick"

WYN ORCA-A "MOBY DICK" STASIS CRUISER (CWA): In one of the more dramatic Klingon raids on the Cluster, a D5A Stasis Cruiser failed to return to Klingon space. Reports from the surviving ships varied, but it was feared that the seperated boom might not have been destroyed and could have fallen into the hands of the WYN. While the reports could never be confirmed, this is what the Klingons feared the WYN might do with such a device.

It is unknown if a SFG ever fell into WYN hands, but the Orca was the most likely ship to mount it (The larger CA was too rare to risk on dangerous stasis missions and the CW had enough speed to effectively employ the device). The GIA obtained Klingon files on this ship and codenamed it "Moby Dick". Had such a ship been built, it might have made any attempt to penetrate the WYN Radiation Zone virtual suicide.

From an older conversation now burried in the Scary Ship Archives...

Aww, that's a bit uninspired...why not take the actual boom from a D5A and weld it onto the front half of a WYN CW hull? Cut the hull off just forward of the shoulder phaser-1 mounts (which become L+LF/R+RF) and stick the D5 boom there.

No love...gluing ship peices together isn't exactly inspired either. At least the name be cool. Arrrh!

Michael Powers: 'Cuz that would be lame?

Jeremy, you'd need some low-powered weapons instead of the disruptors (like the D5A uses Drone-Bs), since the SFG is such a power-hog.

Personnally, I prefer the D7A to the D5A...but I to stay on topic, what would the right weapons be? I don't want to make this a simple carbon copy of the D5A with a different outline. There is probably HUGE munchkin potential, but what about making the engine weapon mounts option mounts under the same restriction as the wings? The one immediate danger I see is putting in tons of phasers for SFG padding. Any other thoughts? Keeping the disruptors lets the Moby Dick fight like any other CW until the opportunity to use the SFG arises, where as drone racks turn it into more of support specialist. My personal tactical preference when using a SFG is showing itself here, but what is the right thing for the WYN (this all hypothetically/ conjecturally speaking of course).

Drone racks on stasis ships are very useful when you have all the drones stacked up in the hex next to the target when you drop the field. (More racks also means more reloads for scatterpacks.)

Four shuttles will allow half at least to be used as scatterpacks and one as a WW, if needed. Might be better to have 2 PFs with the ship, in case the SP gets destroyed before the drones can be deployed.

The current design can easily get pretty good drone throw weight by putting racks in the option mounts, bringing the total to 4 B-racks...plenty of drones for scatterpacks. PF mech links are already included in the design.
