Primary aim is to create a Gorn ship post Y170 around 75 bpv suitable for use in Federation Commander as well as SFB. Secondary aim to add to the choice of small Gorn ships.

FFL (Frigate leader)
A "stretched" FF hull replacing the FP plasma-F with a plasma-G and having increased crew quarters at the expense of cargo. Replace 5 cargo with 2 cargo and 2 extra C Hull. Increases shileds to 16,14,14,14

FFE (Escort Frigate)
With few carriers the Gorn bean counters were keen to keep them on the front line for as long as possible. The FFE was a precursor of the Fast Carrier Resupply ships and could double as a replacement escort in an emergency.

Replaces LS/RS phaser-1 with plasma-D racks LS/RS and replaces FP plasma-F with a 360 degree phaser-1

HFF (Heavy Frigate)
Rather more similar in concept to BFF and BDD than the HDD this design replaced the FF wings with DD ones rather than adding a rear saucer.
This was only possible on "stretched" hulls normally used for FFLs. It required removal of the central Plasma-F to allow for strengthening of the wing supports needed for the bigger wings.

Increase shields to 16,16,14,14
Replace wings with ones mounting a plasma-F, phaser-1, phaser-3 and impulse. Replace the Plasma-F FP with a 360 degree phaser-1.
Remove the cargo and add 2 C hull and 2 APR.

Similar variants of the BFF existed

BFL (Battle Frigate Leader) and BFE (Battle Escort Frigate)same chnages as FFL and FFE repectively.

HBF (Heavy Battle Friagte)
The HFF wing conversion and BFF saucer addition proved incompatable, although a HBF prototype was made it was found to require destroyer warp engines and destroyer yards. Since the BDD was in every way its superior the HBF was never put into production.

Changes to a BFF. Add a plasma-F to both wings change the plasma-F to a 360 degree phaser-1 and the cargo to APR. Give it 8 box warp engines and change its movement cost to 1/2.
Increase shields to 18 all round.

PETRICK ANALYSIS: Gorn Frigate variants. The escort frigate has been done (Captain’s Log #53), though I doubt it is what he wanted. Other variants could be done if we wanted to, but I am a little antsy about opening the door wider to put the wings of a larger ship on a smaller one (destroyer wings on a frigate). What would be next? Dreadnougt wings on a light cruiser or heavy destroyer? Beyond that, the frigate has always had that large cargo bay, and we have generally been loath to let people mess with it (the concept of converting it all to APRs has shown up several times). Which is why we mostly just cut it out to do the Battle Frigate in Module R8.

SVC ANALYSIS: in my recent review of 40,000 proposal post I found (and did not endorse) endless proposals for combining the saucer of this Fed ship with the rear hull of that Fed ship and the engines of some other Fed ship. This way lies madness.
