I believe X1B is a continuation of X1R. It would include X-ships that "didn't make the cut" for X1R but which people still want to see (for example, a Federation X-tech light cruiser based on the NCL).
By James Hallmark (Jhallmark) on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 - 01:49 am: Edit |
Steve, Alan,
Alan is correct. It is more 1st generation X ships. We came up with a lot of ships for X1R that did not make the final cut. Also this could be the place to put DNXs.
However I think people would want counters with this product. Although I would be fine without them.
By Stacy Brian Bartley (Bartley) on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 - 02:07 am: Edit |
I don't suppose it would be possible to release a product without counters and print them at a later date. People who bought the original pressing could buy the counters separately. After the counters are available all subsequent sales of the product would include both (with revised price).
regards
Stacy

In no particular order, my top seven
Campaign Designer’s Handbook #2
Alternate Reality Manuals: ( “Romulans develop warp” reality would be great and might fit in with CDH2)
SFB Module G3: Scheduled for January 09.
SFB Module G3A:
SFB Module M2
SFB Module MY
SFB Revolutionary Edition
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 - 08:58 am: Edit |
Stacy: No point in doing that. If we did counters later, we'd never sell enough of them to pay for the print run. They have to be with the product, or never.
By Tos Crawford (Tos) on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 - 09:22 am: Edit |
1) SFB MSSB, Volume 1
2) SFB MRB Supplement
3) SFB Module R99
4) SFB Revolutionary Edition
5) SFB Module P2X
Honorable Mention: SFB Module X1RB
Comment on M2: I'd be more interested if a large portion of this book were devoted to SSDs.
I worry the Revolutionary Edition might scare off old players, particularly if there are radical changes to fundementals like movement or EA.

Top 4 in order of preference
F&E Playtest Manual
F&E Tactical Notes compilation
FC: Tactics Manual
Silent Star Fleet
My 5th can (F&E Warbook) can't be done until other rules are finished.
As For SFB Revolution, no, FC is now fulfilling that need and plays cleaner and quicker for me.
By Richard Biggs (Richinq) on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 - 05:19 am: Edit |
SFB Module Omega M
SFB Module Omega Zero:.
F&E Warbook (also would like to see F&E for Omega)
Campaign Designer’s Handbook #2
Feline Empires (This is what I am waiting for before starting to collect PD again)
By Mike West (Mjwest) on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 - 09:33 am: Edit |
1) FC Briefing #2: It is already committed, but somehow I figured I had better make it #1 in my list.
2) SFB MRB Supplement: Vudar, R-section rules, S0-S8, any needed updates.
3) CL Special Issue: SSJ3: Woo Hoo! Love to see this!
4) CL Special Issue: SFT: There was lots and lots of stuff that could probably be updated and recycled pretty easily. SFT seemed to do a lot of "conjectural" stuff.
5) Alternate Reality Manuals: This would provide history and SSDs for a single viable alternative history. Since it has to fit in a single book, it would probably be best to design any alternative history such that the majority of the changes are concentrated in a single empire. Examples of such subjects include:
- Terran Imperium (Mirror Universe before the DS9 "wussiness".)
- Vulcan Empire (variant of the above to avoid any Paramount issues over Mirror U.)
- Early Warp Romulans (Gorn raid fails. What happens now? Let Petrick go nuts like he did with the Paravians. Refitted "eagles" for W and Y; something totally new for MY and GW eras.)
- "No-Drone" Federation (Lots of people whine about drones in the Federation. Make a viable alternative without drones.)
- Expanded Klingon Empire (Klingons take over the Romulans just before Tholians arrive, resulting in two Klingon Empires with limited ability to interface after Y102. Again, let Petrick go nuts.)
- Peladine Republic (Rather than treat them as a lost race, provide them in their "we held off the Lyrans long enough to survive" scenario. Same ships, different map and dynamics.)

Could we add somewhere the common HDW configurations? I'd like to see how they get configured to field heavy fighters (I'm still confused by how the Fed HDW mounts F-111), but it would be nice to have SSDs for PFT, Carrier, Commando, Survey and whatever other common 'defined' variants exist. Best of all, no counters.
These could be scattered across CVH, K2, Rxx or grouped together into a booklet. I don't think the booklet would even need a rules section, just the SSDs.

How about a painting guide book, reprint all the old starline 2200 guides, the nexus painting articles and the articles from Captain's log put in one place and print, voila.
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Monday, January 05, 2009 - 07:47 pm: Edit |
I doubt anybody would buy a painting guide book, especially if it was not in color.
A book of HDW SSDs is easy to do, but would anybody buy it? We might put that one on the "start working on it when we have 100 confirmed orders" list.
By Jonathan Jordan (Arcturusv) on Monday, January 05, 2009 - 08:19 pm: Edit |
I could see the HDW being included in some other booklet of SSDs, like the CV Group SSDs. Maybe some other squadron SSD sheets (Frigate Group? War Class Squadrons? DNs and their minimum two suggested escorts?). If it could be done in something cheap enough, like 7-10 bucks, I could see picking it up. Nothing new but it's nice to have those SSDs. It it became something like a full blown R module size and cost probably not, too much good stuff discussed in here for that to make the short list.
By Simon Robinson (Loki) on Tuesday, January 06, 2009 - 07:11 am: Edit |
Following on from the idea of a book of HDW configurations.
How about SSD books of all legal modular ship configurations for the Romulans, all legal TUG configuartions, etc
There are many quite a few ships out there where the rules say that you can swap modules about but provide no SSDs or EPV/BPVs like the OAL
If it means I dont have to "cut and paste" and gives me official EPVs etc I would definately be interested.
By Barry Kirk (Barrykirk) on Thursday, January 15, 2009 - 06:09 pm: Edit |
My top 5 picks not necessarily for 2009, just stuff I'd like to see.
1) Obviously G3
2) More Omega stuff including the races mentioned in the history but never included in the rules or SSDs.
3) More LMC stuff including the races mentioned in the history but never included in the rules or SSDs.
4) Second Gen X-ships... I would prefer a playtest module first to make sure that the final product is properly tuned.
5) E2 continued.
As for the discussion of tech trees. Not sure where that is going. Would this be incorporated into Fed Empire where instead of getting tech automatically based on year. You would have to buy your way up the tree.
Going further would be a generic long term strategy game with multiple paths up the tech tree. Each race could custom pick which tech tree's to research/buy/trade for.
Think of it as Star Fleet Universe does a civ style game.
Do I buy disruptor technology or photons or maybe plasmas?
Or do I research a little of each one? Probably not optimal.
By Sean O'Carroll (Terryoc) on Thursday, January 15, 2009 - 10:47 pm: Edit |
Discussion of tech trees probably belongs in a tech tree thread for campaigns, if one exists. But I'd imagine that each empire would have its own tech tree (similar to games like Dawn of War), in which each faction has its own technologies. Klingons might get basic disruptors and be able to research overloaded disruptors, DERFACS, UIM, range 22 disruptors, range 30 disruptors, etc etc.

Steve,
Can we get your take on the results of this survey?
Or, more importantly, the product line up for 2009?
By Chad Carew (Blackhawkckc) on Friday, January 16, 2009 - 02:17 am: Edit |
1. MSSB V1
2. Master Scenario book.
3. I have F&E and most of the expansion rules. Never actually played it though. Total mystery.
F&E for me is one of those games where it seems you can read the rules but until you sit down and play you wont 'get it'. Anything that helps me 'get it' would be awesome. Im not asking for an "FC-ified F&E rulebook", just anything on F&E that explains tactics and strategy, makes the complex more understandable in non-rule speak.
4. Ill go with Fighting Starships here.
5. MRB update with the sections people thought SVC forgot.
By Stephen E. Parrish (Steveparrish) on Sunday, January 18, 2009 - 08:12 pm: Edit |
If it's not too late:
1. Master scenario Book.
2. Omega Zero. Anything Omega.
3. Lost Worlds.
4. Andro Threat File.
5. Module R99.
By Alex J. Fowler (Ayeshteni) on Monday, March 02, 2009 - 07:08 pm: Edit |
1. SFB Campaign Designers Handbook 2. - I am having difficulty in getting hold of the first one, but an updated one wouldn't go amiss. You could even have a section highlighting interesting 'Rule changes' that players could try out (similar and/or preview of some of the Revolution Edition changes)
2. Andro Threat File. -As ships that never existed players can still use the standard counters.
3. F&E Tactics book. Like Chad I agree that it is a game you can't read only play and experience.
4. X2 Playtest. -Understand this would take lots of work though.
5. Alternate Reality Books. -Really like this idea actually.
A.

1) SSJ3
2) Lost Empires:Peladine if it doesn't require counters
3) C3A
4) CDH2
5) Book of modular ship SSDs.
By Paul Dimbleby (Psd) on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 - 04:17 pm: Edit |
1. Omega 6,7 etc
2. More from The Magellanic Cloud
3. C4R
4. C4X
5. C3A
I know my first two choices were not mentioned in Steve Cole’s compilation of possible books but this is my two pennies worth. I really do not want to see the Revolution Edition.
By Jay K Gustafson (Jay) on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 - 10:17 pm: Edit |
1.Omega 6
2.More Fra stuff
3.Omega x-ships
4.lost empires
5.pariel universes

How about a star fleet times book reprinting the 50 issues of star fleet times? Either a special Captain's log or a special R Module.
