Star Fleet Universe Discussion Board: Star Fleet Battles: After Action Reports (Finished Products): eMRB: Archive through December 23, 2010

I need to remind you guys to be responsible and thoughtful when posting stuff.

I have already had two people email me saying they won't buy the book until we "fixed the mistake" that a certain person reported on the BBS, and a third person email me saying he read on a non-ADB forum that the book was "messed up and left stuff out as reported on ADB's own BBS" quoting by name the person involved. Of course, the "mistake" that person reported (less than two hours after the book was available for sale) was no mistake at all! (He noted that a rule was "missing" but it was NOT missing, it was an unfinished playtest rule which we had announced earlier would not be included.) This kind of irresponsible report on a brand new book damages the company and hurts sales. I don't want the after action topic to be nothing more than adoring praise, but I do have to remind you all to THINK about what you're posting and how it can be misread and seriously ask yourself "Is this going to hurt sales?" and if so, ask you to EMAIL it to Petrick rather than post it. If it's a real mistake, our track record has shown that we will admit it, report it, and fix it. Lord knows that we admit/report/fix more mistakes on each of our products than 99% of publishers admit/report/fix on ALL of their products combined.

The person involved accidentally started a false rumor which has already percollated across the entire internet. More people will "know" that "something is wrong with the book" than will get the truth that the thing in question is NOT wrong with the book.

I see on the MRB errata posted here: http://www.starfleetgames.com/sfb/errata/MRB_Errata_File_For_2010.pdf

I am not sure if it is in the new eMRB as I don't own one yet, that the errata lists
"(YE21.0) ION CANNON and(YE22.0) ION PULSE CANNON" but G3A and Y1 list (YE21.0) WARP-TARGETED LASERS and(YE22.0) QUANTUM CANON , so numbers used twice. S Hantke 22 Dec. 2010

SFB Master Rulebook. (J11.34) "...ground combat offensive power (D15.14) of the fighter..." should read "...ground combat offensive power (D15.87) of the fighter...", that is, to reference (D15.87) instead of (D15.14). At least, I think (D15.87) is a good match for that [perhaps (D15.31) could be used, as an alternate?] - the current reference to (D15.14) referenced merely defines what an "infantry unit" is. 22 December 2010, Xander Fulton.

SFB Master Rulebook. (A1.12), third paragraph. "In theory, once these books are available (probably in 2005-2006) you could buy them, plus the counters and SSD Books, and have the complete game". Should be updated to availability (2012-2013?), or have the date removed - as it is, I've had a question asked as to where these can be bought, since the date is in the past. 22 December 2010, Xander Fulton.

SFB Master Rulebook. (A1.13), third paragraph. "As mentioned elsewhere, we do plan to produce the Master Annexes Manual (replacing the old Module G1) in the future...". Should be something like "We have also produced the Master Annexes Manual as Module G3 (replacing the old Module G1), and is available [DETAILS HERE]". 22 December 2010, Xander Fulton.

(BTW - sorry if that response you got was in reaction to my (G25.5) question. I can't imagine that would be the source of all that complaint, I was just wondering if it had been finalized-into-the-rules since it was originally printed???)

Shawn - the new eMRB correctly references (YE21.0) as WTLs and (YE22.0) as the Quantum Cannon.

EDIT: Okay, sorry, I see what you are referring to. In the list of weapons and their corresponding rule in section (YE0.0) is where the duplication is (currently pg 428 - I didn't see it until I searched for the string...Hurray for Full-Text Search!!!), not in the section names, themselves.

I have checked my copy of the eMRB, and I can confirm the above error is in it. However, the references to Ion Cannons and Ion Pulse Cannons (in the Y0.0 section) simply note that those aren't in the Early Years (yet), so it's just a minor glitch and can be corrected when and if rules for early years ion weapons are added to the game.

SFB Master Rulebook. (A3.20) Reference to "one 224-page rules book (this one)." should be changed to "one 224-page rules book.", that is, delete the comment "(this one)", as the book being read is not the Basic Set rulebook. 22 December 2010, Xander Fulton.

SFB Master Rulebook. (A3.20), second paragraph. NOT ERRATA - recommended re-phrasing. "If your copy of the Basic Set rulebook was included in the separate Captain’s Rulebook (along with the rules to Advanced Missions, Module C1, and Module C2), the components above (except for this rulebook) will not be included." ...to... "If your copy of the Star Fleet Battles rulebook was included in the separate Captain’s Rulebook (the Basic Set rulebook, along with the rules to Advanced Missions, Module C1, and Module C2), or purchased individually as the Master Rulebook, then the components above (except for the rulebook) will not be included." 22 December 2010, Xander Fulton.

SFB Master Rulebook. (A3.3). "1 First contact between Humans and their nearest neighbors (Orions, Vulcans, etc.)." ...should be... "1 First contact between Humans and their nearest neighbors (Vulcans)." Module Y1 states that the Federation did not contact the Orions until Y21. 22 December 2010, Xander Fulton.

SFB Master Rulebook. (A3.3). "62-67 All empires (except the Romulans) develop warp-powered ships." ...should be... "62-67 All empires (except the Romulans and Paravians) develop warp-powered ships." Or, alternatively, alter the date range to 62-70. Module YG3 confirms Paravians did not develop warp-powered ships until Y70. 22 December 2010, Xander Fulton.

SFB Master Rulebook. (A3.3). NOT ERRATA, suggestion - the timeline does not list the Federation Border declaration of Y102. This seems useful to list, given how many things it sets the stage for, later (arguably: the entire General War). 22 December 2010, Xander Fulton.
