Star Fleet Universe Discussion Board: Star Fleet Battles: After Action Reports (Finished Products): Module C3A Andromedan Threat File: Archive through February 17, 2011
By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Monday, January 22, 2007 - 05:28 pm: Edit

Preliminary post (formal concept document to follow when available).

This will probably be an SSD book (no counters?) listing various things that the various intelligence agencies (incorrectly) thought, feared, hypothesized, or guessed the Andros were about to do.

This would include Andros with phaser-1s, Andros with X-tech, Andros with seeking weapons, Andro fighters (maybe), Andro PFs (very maybe), and new ship types.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 - 06:52 pm: Edit

We will work on this concept document after some others. General theory is to include andros with phaser-1s, andros with seeking weapons, andro fighters and PFs, three-engine andros, and so forth. Just about any idea that can be handled in a page or two of rules can be considered.

Adam is working on an "imaginary" Ando x-ship for the cover of this product. Here are some of the "blank" images which he will color and texture.

And this is Adam's concept sketch for the overall cover.

Andromedan X-Ship? Now I KNOW I'm going to pick this one up

By Gary Carney (Nerroth) on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 - 03:55 pm: Edit

It would be cool if there was at least one corner of the Star Fleet Universe that could see one of those things show up...

By Jeff Laikind (J_Laikind) on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 - 05:53 pm: Edit

Why do the sections of the engines look like coffins? Is that an implied threat? :)

By George Duffy (Sentinal) on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 - 06:10 pm: Edit

They look like flattened out Tholians to me....

By Terry O'Carroll (Terryoc) on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 - 07:28 pm: Edit

Gary: The simulators! ;)

and alternate/a-historical campaigns. Now the Andromedan player doesn't have to be "left behind" when the X era starts.

Is the threat file going to contain the "classic" TRH armed sat ships?

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 - 01:15 am: Edit

I suppose it could. Email Petrick and tell him I liked the idea.

By Mike West (Mjwest) on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 - 08:39 am: Edit

Especially the original Cobra, in all of its insane glory!

By Steve Petrick (Petrick) on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 - 02:50 pm: Edit

There is a problem with doing this.

Believe it or not, I do not remember what the original Mamba, Cobra, or Viper looked like, and could at this juncture not do anything more than simply convert the existing TRLs to TRHs.

By Richard B. Eitzen (Rbeitzen) on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 - 03:52 pm: Edit

Original cobra had 20 warp instead of 18 and TRH instead of TRL, as well as 4 PA panels in the rear instead of 3.

There was no original Viper if I recall, they had a courier ship with sensors and a TR beam.

If there were other differences, I cannot recall.

I have the Commander's Ed Andro SSDs, I will scan and email to SPP ASAP.

Thanks guys!

That imaginary X-Andro does look intimidating, especially with those flaring structures by the engines and sharp edges when compared to the smooth curves of their basic ships.

I sent everything I could find in the old SSD books, 1-9; Revised SSD books 1-3, Vol 1-3 SSD books, CL#1-7, and Nexus #1-18. The Viper SSD was in Update #2. D1 Veterans Master Ship Chart mentions a KS (King Snake?), Rattler, Asp and Diamond (Diamond back?) I can't find. These might have been in with the first Captain's SSDs. Update 2 mentions a PSS and 2 Cargo pods I can't find SSDs for, though I imagine there weren't SSDs for those units.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOO, can haz Andro PF's? How many Andro PF's can fit in a standard hanger? Would the mech-links be in the hanger or outside? Can Andro PF's be displaced?

OOOOOO, and Fighters! Can they be displaced too? Would they have seeking weapons or would they be direct fire only like Hydrans?

How making the PSS into a seeking weapon? (Man I wish Mom hadn't thrown way my old commander SSD book. That's where the PSS and cargo pods were IIRC)

What would one call a Dominator with a PF Floatilla and two squadrons of fighters?

By A. David Merritt (Adm) on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 - 08:43 pm: Edit

Dangerous!

By Terry O'Carroll (Terryoc) on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 - 09:26 pm: Edit

Patrick, I think the Andros already have SSUs and sleds in the role of PFs and fighters. Unless you're proposing something new?

By Jacob Karpel (Psybomb) on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 - 11:43 pm: Edit

It's already said that Andro True-PFs are possibly in C3A. I may have to sketch it up myself if I have the time (can never seem to get the definition programs working, though...). Andromedan batteries and PA banks on them too make for some sadistic fun.

This is something that every last one of the Galactic Powers would have worried about. Think about it, What happens if an Andromedan PFT pops out of the RTN and drops the flotilla to stike a target well away from itself. They come back after their mission, load back in, and pop out the same way they came.

The main Andromedan weakness was how slow they were away from the RTN, and having PFs would solve that problem neatly. Thus, worry.

By A. David Merritt (Adm) on Thursday, February 17, 2011 - 12:06 am: Edit

Andromedan gunboats were in one of the SFTs, if I remember correctly. I do not remember a true fighter equivalent.

By Gary Carney (Nerroth) on Thursday, February 17, 2011 - 10:27 am: Edit

I was referring more to an invasion which could take place in a part of the SFU that would not directly overlap with the ones we've seen so far.

For example, if the Andromedans were to send a force to the Triangulum Galaxy (either directly, or via the Pisces Dwarf and/or one or more of M33's satellite globular clusters) one could have some of their "traditional" hulls sent to the LMC/Alpha/Omega replaced with one or more alternate designs.

(M33 is a lot closer to Andromeda than the Milky Way is; if they did go there, and were to arrive at about the same time as "ours" did, they might have left M31 a century or more after the Milky Way armada was deployed. Who knows what kind of advances the Andromedans might have made to their fleet back home in that time?)

It's not clear that Triangulum even has an Andromedan invasion at some point; but if it does, it could be neat to see the Andro fleet sent there do things a little differently.

When it comes to the designs set for this module, I would ask for at least one or two of the "intelligence estimates" to be drawn from sources in Omega and the LMC, not just from Alpha.

For example, an FRA analyst might postulate Andromedan PFs, as a Fed or Baduvai counterpart could; but said designs might be more likely to use the volatile warp system used on Omega PFs, rather than the hot warp engines used in Alpha and the LMC.

Also, for campaign purposes, it would be useful if some sort of fleet yard could be offered for the Andromedans, so they can set about building more motherships.

(One thought I had was for a "Consecrator"; a conversion of the Desecrator which would take out the RTN node in order to make room for shipyard production facilities. Such a base could even be used to approximate a re-tooling of the second Desecrator in the LMC; which was left idle for decades until Y200, when it was tasked with constructing the Devastator battleship. That could make it so that only the third Desecrator needed to be destroyed by the Unity forces in order to disrupt the inter-galactic RTN link.)
