This was kicked around a bit on the Mongoose Forums, I am going to put a not here. The question is, is this interesting enough to warrant a full work up of stats for it.

The premiese is really simple build a Dreadnought from Spare Parts laying around a ship yard.

Take a DN Saucer mount it to a pair of Cruiser/Strike Cruiser Hulls mountted in tandum and add back the 3 Nacells in their traditional arrangement.

I have a Sketch I did up I will try to link in here tommorrow.

Sounds like a BB with DN engines? It would be slow.

In "tandem"? I thought the idea was to mount the aft hulls side-by-side (but not touching).

Was typing that way to late yes side by side not tandem. Touch or not is an artistic thing so its all in how one wants to mount them.

I would imagine the time just to work out the Warp Field would take as long as it would to build a fleet of B-10s.

An interesting idea.
Some concerns though: How would the rear hulls attach to the saucer? They can't just use the same connecting point on the saucer. Perhaps 'angled' connecting necks leading to an adapter peice attached to the saucer?

The innermost nacelle strut on each hull could form a connecting strut between the two rear hulls providing increased structural strength.

My preference as far as a mini goes would be to have the hulls separated. It makes it easier to paint.

My thought would be very much like a Tug's engines are mounted.

I'm working on a quick drawing of this idea for you guys.

I said I would put this in here I am sure Will's will be much cooller.

As far as working out the Warp Fields on the Double DN it probably is close enough to the Regular DN that they could do it pretty quick. It is the 4 Nacell one that might get to be tricky, it is quite a but different from the HDW so that probably could not be used as a base line.

I like the idea enough that I think SVC may want it for the "Funky Feds" project. Because of that, I decided not to post my drawing and send it to SVC for consideration. If it's not worth pursuing for Funky feds, then I asked if I can post it as part of this discussion.

By Will McCammon (Djdood) on Monday, March 11, 2013 - 03:34 pm: Edit

OK, the concept has been confirmed as a no-go for "Funky Feds", so here is my drawing:

Similar to Dal's, but it looks like my muse took me down some different roads on the details.

Who confirmed what? I haven't confirmed this as being go or no go. I cannot find any email from me saying it was no go and could be posted.

By Will McCammon (Djdood) on Monday, March 11, 2013 - 04:56 pm: Edit

My mistake then. I'm in the process of removing it from Photobucket.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Monday, March 11, 2013 - 05:08 pm: Edit

No real crisis.

There may be some confusion but I'm not upset about anything. I just cannot get from my email to "confirmed" anything (other than it's confirmed I sent it to my lawyer).

I just drafted up an SSD for this ship. It's prettty straight forward. I used a CB saucer and two CB aft hulls, with an addition of a single Photon on each gooseneck. I'll send SVC & SPP the GIF image.

The opening post mentions a DN saucer; it has more weapons and the support for a third nacelle.

By Garth L. Getgen (Sgt_G) on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 - 02:32 am: Edit

I know, but I felt the DN saucer was a bit too much. This still has: 6 Photon, 12 Ph-1, 4 Ph-3, 4 Drone, 47 Warp, 4 AWR, 4 Impulse, (55x Power), 8 Battery, 2 Bridge, 2 Flag, 2 Aux, 2 Emer, 12 F-Hull, 8 R-Hull. (20x Hull), 8 Shuttle, 4 Tractor, 6 Trans, 8 Lab, 2 Probe. Total boxes = 145.

Compared to the DN+, it has +2 boxes and the same power. To use the DN saucer, it would add 6 F-Hull, 2 lab, and 2 Impulse, but give back 2 Ph-1. To use the DN+ saucer, it would get rid of the gooseneck Photons and gain back the Ph-1, but would 4 more F-Hull (+10 total). The DNG saucer would add 4 more power (giving up 4 Lab).

No matter how you slice it, the DN saucer is too much. I would use it to make a "spare parts battleship", but not a "spare parts dreadnought".
