Shawn Hantke suggested this idea.
We'd take the various monster scenarios that were in various out-of-print products.
Do more scenarios for monsters in exiting products.
Do more entirely new monsters.
Do variants and versions of existing monsters.
Do SSDs for monsters.
Of course, what he really wants is the Juggernaut and maybe the bigger and smaller versions of it.
Anyway, it's an idea worth considering, but we'll need to let it simmer for a few months while we finish the products already on the schedule. This topic is your chance to pitch in some ideas and suggestions and ask any questions. Just how many different people post in this topic and what they have to say good or bad may have a dramatic effect on the chances of it getting picked for publication.

Is "Monster Manual" copyrighted already by TSR?

Don't sweat it. It's just a working title.

Hooray for the Juggernaut!!!
If we can have a slight focus on solitare monsters, that would be cool.

Maybe some sort of Monster version of the
Captain's Game, for players who'd like to
do a series of solo games?

Or a campaign where you _are_ the monster?

Juggernaught Captain's Campaign
See who can kill the most BPV of ships?
LOL

Interesting idea. I suppose if this is the way to get more scenario books... I'll have to think about it a bit more (I do play the solitaire monster scenarios, but usually only when I'm bored or late at night).

Well, I'll jump in and say I like the idea and will certainly buy it. I've got a few ideas too, which I'll post later.

Ooooh cool.
A fleshed out series of Juggernaught ships certainly intrigues me. Perhaps a sneak look at the Nicozians or Xorks as well?
Solitair monster scenarios are hard to do but they would be neat to see.

Put me down for 1 copy, sight unseen!
How about a juggernought fleet campaign (al'la Steller Shadows) where there are several Juggernoughts cooperating to attack an empire as a F&E 'tie in'?...goal of the F&E race is survival!(sort of like a squadron of B10's running amok!)
(bonus points if the F&E player can maintain a creditble fleet on all borders...and loses points if he has to "abandon" a border to free up the fleet strength to kill the Juggernoughts?!?)

SSD's for monsters, sounds cool. This could work well for the Junior Events tournament I suggested.

A good 'nusence monster' would be fun, too. It doesn't really break things, it just is a pita. Even in combat with it, it won't destroy your ship, it just does something to incapacitate your ship more & more.
Of course, these beasties are highly prolific so they must be put down fast or shipping routes, base zones, etc will be threatened.
Think of them as space tribbles.

Heck, I bought "Booms and Saucers" - I sure wouldn't miss this one.

We need more than just monsters to make it really nice though. Terrain too perhaps? Let's hear other ideas-
By Alex Chobot (Alendrel) on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 - 03:27 pm: Edit |
Why do we need more than monsters for a book about monster scenarios? There's an awful lot that can be done as monsters. Different flavors of both solitare and duel monsters, maybe some that work better in fleets, expansions on existing ones, etc.

Carl-Magnus
You beat me to it. Some new terrain and or refined terrain rules would be really, really great!
Alex, if the Monster Manuel is going to be as big as S1 and S2 then I'll bet there would be room. Some "P" section rules might help sell the product to people not interested in monsters so much.

I'll buy it.

I'd like to see a Veger type monster not called Veger because of copyrights. how about something that can fire plasma Rs every other turn. and it can draw ships ito a type of mouth heading speed 32. Just a thought.
By Frank Brooks (Alskdjf) on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 - 04:06 pm: Edit |
A while back, I heard talk of a comet-type terrain. Something like that might fit in this product.
One hex is a large asteroid, xx hexes behind are dust/ring hexes. Asteroid moves in a straight line at yy hexes a turn.
Or something like that.
