SUPER-HEAVY CRUISERS (SCAs)
This began as a technology block in the Campaign Designer’s Handbook in which an empire developed the ability to build “super heavy cruisers like the KillerHawk-K” which was noted as being the only such ship in the game. That defined the class as “a heavy battlecruiser hull with more power and weapons but subject to shock and other limitations.”
To some players this meant what ADB intended it to mean, that the KillerHawk-K was a failed experiment no other empire repeated. This included those players who had heard ADB say that they didn't write the CDH and didn't consider it to hold any power in defining ship classes.
To other players it meant that ADB would one day print such ships for all empires, and maybe not even give them the “shock and other limitations” since that made the ship less fun.
Others regarded a partial X refit of the BCH to be so much better than a SCA that nobody cared if SCAs were ever published. All the while, ADB was trying to figure out how to erased the dreadful mistake of partial-X refits from memory (and every copy of the rulebook).
Alas, ADB meant “failed experiment” and nothing more. Even so, it remains a possible direction ADB could go if it really wanted to do some exciting big ships.
