Drones actually work very well and are one of the best weapons for fighters to use. Launching drones from inside an ESG is dumb but that's why nobody does it.

Launched outside the ESG they break up Hydran Stinger attacks, break up Kzinti drone attacks, and drive enemy movement.

Phaser-3 pods and RALADS already exist and you don't need anybody's permission to mount them on drone rails.
