One comment about the election, that is to say that Joe Biden is still President and Kamala Harris is still Vice President and the makeup of the Senate and the House is basically fixed for the next three (3) MONTHS. We have had an election to determine who is eligible to take charge after that, but in the interim the President elect could be arrested based on convictions in the New York could system or charges in other court jurisdictions.

NBC and Forbes are reporting that the United States Department of Justice, is dropping all current cases against President Trump.

Even the case about hoarding classified intelligence files at home? With no consequences for doing so I imagine Trump will be doing it again. That's a big security risk there. Wonder who will stop him from doing that since I imagine all around him will be loyalists?
Pentagon will not be amused.

Security risk or not, any president can declassify any document at any time. The "case' against him was legally dubious (like every case against him) and purely political. It might be noted that vice presidents and senators do not have the same privileges. Now, regarding the totally bogus hush money convictions, they will be tossed the second an appeals court sees them, but he cannot appeal until sentencing, which is why sentencing was delayed past the election, and ...
Ouch! My foot!

Point of information. Virtually every democracy on the planet has a law that says you cannot jail a member of the legislature for anything (at least when the legislature is in session) because some local sheriff might jail a legislator on totally bogus charges just to affect the outcome of an upcoming legislative vote. That way would lead to chaos.
Similarly, every democracy on the planet has a law that you cannot prosecute the chief executive (until he leaves office) because that would allow any prosecutor in a small town to interfere with the government.

I do mean it. No more talking about Trump's legal problems/nonproblems. The only legitimate place that Trump has in this topic is as his future role of Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.

Point of information:
Jean, do you realize just how much interaction a president has in this nation outside of his position as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces?
You have just banned discussions on on everything from nuclear weapons (which are controlled by civilian agencies, not the military,) to Education (every year large numbers of officers of foreign nations come to the United States to learn or train on maters not pertaining to defense).
You have just banned discussions on class room eduction (including a variety of non military topics) such as erosion, climate change, green renewable energies, law enforcement, drugs, immigration and human trafficking.
You might want to take a step back and reconsider how to word such an all encompassing censorship.
By Alan Trevor (Thyrm) on Thursday, November 07, 2024 - 06:21 pm: Edit |
Jeff;
Nuclear weapons are controlled by civilian agencies, not the military? I wish you would expand on that because it's not the way I remember it.
Granted. it was a lot of years ago, but as an F-111 Weapon Systems Officer I used to sit nuclear alert for real. Later, as the Wing Electronic Warfare Officer, I was part of the Nuclear Certification Board for the 27th Fighter Wing at Cannon AFB. (The "Cert Board" examines aircrews and certifies if they are qualified to sit nuclear alert.)
Now maybe things have changed since my day. Or maybe you're using "control" in a sense different from my understanding. But I think you really need to clarify what you mean with your claim that nuclear weapons are controlled by civilian agencies rather than the military.
By John Wyszynski (Starsabre) on Thursday, November 07, 2024 - 07:51 pm: Edit |
The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), which is within the Department of Energy, is responsible for everything except deploying and using nuclear weapons. That is production, maintenance, storage, and such. They also have the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
By Alan Trevor (Thyrm) on Thursday, November 07, 2024 - 08:17 pm: Edit |
John,
But that gets back to what you mean when you say someone "controls" the weapons. I touched on that tangentially in my 6:21 PM post; the sense in which the word "control" is being used. Personally, I would characterize the NNSA function as more "management" than control. But others might mean something different by the words.
By Alan Trevor (Thyrm) on Thursday, November 07, 2024 - 08:26 pm: Edit |
There's also the question of what constitutes a "civilian agency". Are police "civilians"? Are CIA agents "civilians"? What about State Department, especially the Bureau of Intelligence and Research and the Diplomatic Security Service (DSS)? Are these "civilian" agencies? I guarantee the answer will depend on whom you ask.

NON-POLITICAL FACT-BASED UPDATE: Reds seem to have 53 senators and control of the House with six or eight margin. With reconciliation they can pass tax cuts going around any filibuster. Passing the border wall will take Blue votes. Mass deportations are a policy under existing law. The US will impose the same tariffs on China that China has long imposed on the US, so Temu will get plastered. Looks likely that Pretzi T will name two more supremes over the next few years.
I would NOT recommend that others stray from Jean's "commander in chief" guidelines.

Jeff Wile,
Allie and Ally are hovering around your location.
You have just banned discussions on on everything from nuclear weapons (which are controlled by civilian agencies, not the military,)
If civilians have control of nuclear weapons, it is news to me.
to Education (every year large numbers of officers of foreign nations come to the United States to learn or train on maters not pertaining to defense).
Let's see -- what exactly does the president have to do with that?
You have just banned discussions on class room eduction (including a variety of non military topics) such as erosion, climate change, green renewable energies,
Discussion of climate change and all those are ALREADY forbidden on this BBS.
law enforcement, drugs, immigration and human trafficking.
And if the military gets involved in those, then the discussion can be in this topic.
The only legitimate place that Trump has in this topic (Real-World Military) is as his future role of Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.
The name of the topic is included for clarification.
Political discussion is not allowed on this BBS.
Jeff, arguing with a moderator on the BBS is a no-no. Email me at sales@starfleetgames.com if you feel I have not considered my words.
