It was an air strike. Trump said it was disturbing and not helpful. The US was warned a few minutes ahead and warned the Qataris.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, September 09, 2025 - 04:02 pm: Edit

Apparently, Netanyahu thought the negotiations were going nowhere due to bad faith on the part oh Hamas, and that Qatar was not being an honest broker. Anyone but Bibi would have thought just ordering your own team back for consultations would be enough, but Bibi has been pushed too far. If Hamas was acting in good faith this would have been over a year ago.

By Paul Howard (Raven) on Tuesday, September 09, 2025 - 04:37 pm: Edit

Well, difficult to read from the 'statements' - but is President Trump actually annoyed with the Israelis - and if so, is that just a public 'displeasure' or could it be stronger than that?

Certainly, if the Israeli's had notified the US - the US could have said 'no'- but it seems the US Military detected the Attack and no actual formal warning was given??

about the only saving grace is 'only' Hamas people died (noting not all may be guilty) - god knows what would have happened if a Qataris or US person was killed.

Note - Friend of the Wife works in Doha and his School is very close to the Hamas Building (about 150-200 yards or so I would guess from the pictures he took) - fortunately, the School Day ended at 12.30 pm so all the Pupils had gone home.

How do you know not all are guilty? I mean, they're high level Hamas people, yes? Presumably they all support Hamas' genocidal intentions, yes?

This is good. I wish no children had to suffer from war. :(

Ted - I don't know, but meant to some say some may not be guilty = amended original post.

The timing of any warning/notification does seem to be causing some concerns from Qatar....

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Tuesday, September 09, 2025 - 07:00 pm: Edit

Everyone in Hamas is guilty to one degree or another. It's a terrorist organization. You lay down with dogs, you wake up with an explosive dog biscuit.

The strike killed five hamas staff and a Qatari security officer.

Netanyahu said that the attack was justified by the actions of Hamas. While the attack came as Hamas was considering a new US peace plan, there was no indication (and almost zero evidence or confidence) that Hamas would actually accept the plan in good faith.

Netanyahu seems to have decided that wrecking the peace talks was a move without a downside as the peace talks were never going to do anything anyway. Anti-Israeli sources speculated without any evidence that Hamas just maybe might have worked with the new proposal.

Families of Israeli hostages are howling mad, saying that Netanyahu had effectively abandoned the hostages and condemned them to death.

It's possible, even likely the ones being seen in Ukraine are momuments. Theres a story of a Russian unit that was entering a town in the early days of the war, turned a corner and saw a tank and shot it.

It was T-34 on a War Memorial pedestal.

Poland said Wednesday that multiple Russian drones entered its territory over the course of several hours and were shot down with help from NATO allies, describing the incursion as an "act of aggression" carried out during a wave of Russian strikes on Ukraine.

The Kremlin refused to comment, but its close ally, Belarus, said it tracked some drones that "lost their course" because they were jammed. However, several European leaders said they believe that the incursion amounted to an intentional escalation by Russia of its war on Ukraine.

Ryan: your Sister thanks you and returns the gesture.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 - 12:11 pm: Edit

I suspect incompetence in the Polish incursion. It's not the kind of provocation I would use if I were Russia. Still, it shows how dangerous this whole mess is and explains why some people want it over on any terms.

Poland has now invoked NATO Article 4.

Article 4 allows member states to start a formal discussion within the alliance about threats to their security. It does not commit the alliance to military action. It is a required step before invoking Article 5, which would demand joint military action to defend Poland.

Kudos to Jessica for quick reporting key breaking news. If this war slides out of control, that is where it will be said to have started.

As a side note: to some extent, alliance action is already, well, in action: Dutch fighters took part in bringing down some of the drones, and Italy put both a tanker and an EL/W-2085 AEW&C in the air in case they were needed.

The biggest group of drones flew over Kiev and into Poland. Some of these turned around and went back to Kiev. The rest crashed into little of any importance in Poland, reinforcing the idea of a navigation error. If done as a warning to NATO, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to try so hard to look like a navigation error. A few drones outside of the main group went a long way into Poland, but their route actually supports the Byelorussian claim of Ukraine jamming them.

By Steve Cole (Stevecole) on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 - 10:47 pm: Edit

Rumor circulating in NATO is to say that to prevent future accidents, NATO will shoot down any drone within 100 miles (or some distance that includes Kiev by accident) of the western Ukrainian border. That would let Ukraine move its air defense units from that sector to the east.

Another is to give Ukraine long-range missiles and permission to use them. This might be done by selling Ukraine unassembled missiles (even better if Ukraine has to build some of the parts) so they are Ukrainian made missiles.

By MarkSHoyle (Bolo) on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 - 10:49 pm: Edit

Poland as early as 2023 (maybe even 2022), had already prepared to react to missiles that radar believed could fly into the country, even miles inside Ukraine......

Sorry if this isn't fully RWM...

...but about an hour ago, the British Foreign Secretary withdrew (polite way of saying, he has been Sacked) Lord Mandelson as the UK Ambassador to the US.

All interrelated to Epstein and what Lord Mandelson 'did' in supporting him. -with more information coming out overnight it seems.

With President Trump's State visit to the UK and the NATO issues - the new Ambassador (no names have been mentiioned yet) will no doubt have to hit the ground running - hence there is some RWM aspect.

Not good when you appoint 'friends' to high places and this sort of stuff then comes out (so there will be some Political Fall Out - both in the UK and between the UK and US, if the US asks "how did they get approved for such a senior role?".

I think its fair to say "Sorry America - we didn't know he was that guilty".
.
(If this isn't conisdered RWM - please delete it)

On a different topic: the drug boat from Venezuela that was hit by U.S. forces in the southern Caribbean last week....

The boat was under U.S. surveillance for a significant period of time. Those on board apparently spotted the U.S. aerial assets and altered the vessel’s course. U.S. officials said the boat appeared to have turned back toward shore, after which it was subjected to multiple strikes. Three sources, including Sen. Rand Paul, said the boat was attacked by one or more drones.

Crew of the the boat were said to have survived an initial strike, according to two American officials familiar with the matter. They were then killed shortly after in a follow-up attack.

Regarding the drones that entered Polish airspace, enough has been recovered from the wreckage to determine that (1) they were Shahed drones (Iran-built, Russia-used) and (2) they were equipped with dummy warheads of the sort used to overwhelm air defenses.

One item I haven't seen in the news for awhile, are stories or reports of Drug Subs....
Have they ceased using them or just no one talking about them....

Bolo: an abandoned one washed ashore in the Solomon Islands three weeks back; it was the second in the past year.

A bit more on the drones that entered Poland.

1. It wasn't the first time it happened. It was the most drones at one time.

2. There were 19 Shaheed drones. Four were shot down. The others were going nowhere important and allowed to crash because missiles to shoot them with are expensive and throwing 20mm cannon shells around isn't a good idea. One drone hit a house causing minor damage.

3. It was consistent with navigation errors and jamming. It was not consistent with giving Poland a message. It could be said to be consistent with probing NATO defenses but you would have to do a lot of such probes to do any good.

4. The F16 has trouble finding drones in ground clutter. The F35 has a better radar but doesn't normally carry Sidewinders; Amraams are serious overkill. What is needed is something equivalent to a Cessna carrying some kind of repeating shotgun.

5. About the only weapons left to use against Putin are to seize the shadow fleet (if you can track any given ship) or send NATO fighters into Ukraine.
