One thing our group did was have a larger hex (made from cardboard or some such) that we would transfer multiple ships from a single hex onto, coming in at the edge from where they did on the large map. That way it was an easier visual to see orientation and it didn't take too much time away by ...

I agree, nice work! I'm especially fond of the Romulan group shot. Those red pannels really tie them all together. :D

Re: Fighters in SFB and FC

I remember a discussion many years ago about the carrier aviation guys influencing SFB. Many players liked it. I am not a fan. It changes the entire SFU and is detrimental to playability.
I'm split on the issue of fighters in SFB or FC. On the one hand, I really like the additional tactical ...

I play Flames of War as well but I've got much bigger "early and mid war" armies than late war with A9, A10, and Crusader Cruisers along with Valentines, Matildas, an MkIV Churchills. Though it's more of a preference for british armour as even late war I have Cromwells not Shermans.
I've got a ...

Yes, because you can never have to many miniatures.
Yes, but I don't have a whole garage to store them in like some people!

You should have 2 of each battleship... just in case you decide to fight a civil war.
Or maybe an incursion from the mirror universe?

However, I think the one we ...

But... if you get the Line of Battle expansion for Federation Commander, there are three scenarios in there featuring Battleships.
Somehow, I missed that product in the FC section of the online store. I'll have to add it to my next order!

Very seldom do we use BB, and only rarely DNs in out ...

I'm fond of the traditional "fleet mix" too. All "munchkin" ship fights tend to be boring slugfest of attrition. Battles with a mixture have more action, with little ships going boom, ganging up on the other side's flagship, etc.

Yes, its that sort of "max out the best units!" type of play that's ...

Thanks, Will!

That PDF looks like it will be a great help. I've never been much of a fan of "points match" games, generally when I do get a chance to play I end up with myself (or my opponent) setting up a scenario and the ship lists for both sides so knowing how the "in-game" doctrine for setting ...

Deploying DNs and BBs

I've got a sort of background question regarding the deployment of Dreadnoughts and Battleships during the General War. Would a powerful squadron or fleet typically be build around a single DN or BB, or was it at all common for multiple big ships to operate together in one formation (this is aside ...

Re: The Middle Years

It's a shame that newer players only want the latest and greatest ships. I would say to you all: PLAY THE MIDDLE YEARS! I think you will find it interesting and challenging .
I agree that people are missing out on a lot of fun by ignoring the Early and Middle years. The challenges involved in ...

I used to have a soundtrack from TOS on tape that I liked to play, but I don't even have a tape deck anymore. I'll have to track down an MP3 compilation to play on my cell phone. 8)
