Fight for the Cure proposed tournament

Post by Jean »

From the BBS: I had an idea (which Jean liked on several levels) that in 2011, we could have a month-long Fight For the Cure tournament during October.

Basically, it would cost $5 to sign up. ALL of the sign-up fees would go to an appropriate organization for breast cancer research.

The winner would get some store-credit prize (I am thinking $50), and (if 16 sign up) a rated ace card & pin. It would of course be a sanctoned tournament with no goofy ships.

All participants would get a pink campaign ribbon for the Wall of Honor.

For 2011, we'd take sign-ups all during September, then have three weeks of "patrol" battles, then set a tree on 22 Oct for 16 finalists.

It would give the company some good karma and publicity. We'd promote it in CapLog, Hailing Frequencies, Facebook, and so forth.

We're THINKING about the insane idea of going ahead and doing it THIS year (even though it's really short notice) but that may prove logistically impossible. Anyone have any thoughts? -- SVC

Comment here, on our page on FB, or on the BBS Star Fleet Universe Discussion Board: Company-Conventions-Stores-Ideas: Convention News (Multi Games): Fight For the Cure.

[Edited to reflect the current thinking. -- Jean]

News Flash: "Fight for the Cure" will send the entry fees to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. I'm very happy that this tournament has generated some much excitement among our players.
