Point of order: "Jump in with one of the border boxes..."

He means KLINGON BORDER or ROMULAN BORDER (which are boxed games) and not Border Box 1, Border Box 2, Border Box 3.....Border Box 10 (which are packs of 24 miniature starships).

Thanks for the replys! One more quick question: Does each boxed game come with scenarios?
I remeber with SFB, we never played published scenarios...we just chose our favorite ships and had a free for all....

I have found over the years that I prefer having tangible scenario goals and clear victory conditions..... :)

Yes... both Klingon Border and Romulan Border have several scenarios in them... as do Klingon Attack, Romulan Attack, Battleships Attack (my personal favorite - scenario wise), Tholian Attack, Orion Attack, Hydran Attack, Distant Kingdoms, and War and Peace.

And if that isn't enough scenarios; every issue of Communique (63 so far!) has a scenario included and each issue of Captain's Log has several more (Although Fed Comm materail wasn't included prior to CL issue #32).

I know, that most times when I go to Scoutdad's to play, we are testing some scenario...

True... But BA has three of the best-est scenarios ever written for Fed Comm, selected from a pool of literally hundreds of submitted scenarios, from some of the best scenario writers out there!!! 8)

That's not biased at all...

I will say that those are some good ones, but then again...I'm hard pressed to pick a 'bad' scenario.

And if you ever feel that a scenario isn't balanced or you think something is wrong, just strange about it, let people know. Start a new thread, ask a question, or make a (constructive) poll. I know I've made mistakes in some scenarios that I've submitted, and been confused about certain aspects of other scenarios before.

Okay Mike, it's been one week. What did you decide to do?

FYI, when I started FedComm I started with Romulan Border. In retrospect, I think that worked out well. Romulan Border has a tighter topical focus than Klingon Border does, in that the ships are all Federation, Romulan, and Gorn. Klingon Border, which I bought recently, emphasizes Federation and Klingons with a sampling of Kzinti, Orion, and Tholian thrown in. Both border sets have the same training and duel scenarios, one monster scenario (meaning starship vs. monster, not monster as in huge), one convoy scenario, one base attack scenario, and then one (Klingon) or two (Romulan) other scenarios. And of course, the ships in Romulan Border have plasma torpedoes.

Whichever border boxed set you start with, I suggest your second purchase be the associated "Attack" set, either Klingon Attack or Romulan Attack. Besides getting more (but different) ships of the same races, the Attack sets provide 10 (Romulan) or 12 (Klingon) unique "historical" scenarios. That should give you several decent fleets of ships to choose from, along with many scenarios.

My purchasing sequence to date has been:
1) Romulan Border
2) Romulan Attack
3) Reference Rule Book
4) Klingon Border + Klingon Attack + Briefing #1
...plus all of the booster packs associated with those products.

BA....Battleships Attack?
Yes... and for those not in on the shameless self-promotion; By some quirk of fate, when the Battleships Attack product was in develpment - the only scanarios involving Battleships had been done by yours truly. that menas I have the honor of doing all three of the scenarios in BA.

Hi. Just got back from vacation. Probably gonna pick up Romulan Border tomorrow. Maybe get Klingon space as well. I like the older ships; the old CL, the DDs and the famous Constitution class. All of which are not included in Romulan Border.

If you want to get the old Fed DDs, they won't be in Klingon Border; you'll find them (along with other "Franz Joseph" ships and variants) in Booster #91.

Not all of the variants in that booster are intended for the Main Era (General War-ISC Pacification-Andromedan War); some are what in SFB would be pre-refit designs, and are intended to work with the Middle Years setting outlined in Briefing #2.

As Dal mentioned, B2 is available as a black-and-white book, but you can also get the various components as colour pdfs over at ADB's corner of e23.

I suggest you try Romulan Border first, and then decide whether you want to go with with Klingon Space or Klingon Border. I went with KB because I wanted the additional map boards. They are especially valuable if you intend to play using the larger ship counters, as a lot of scenarios are just too large to be represented on six large-hex panels.

I also hedged my bets by buying boosters #1 and #2 before buying any of the Klingon sets, so I'd have the ship cards for the older ships available even if I decided the Romulan sets were sufficient for me. As you can see from my previous post, they weren't. :)

I think Tholian Attack will be next for me.

This is great! I am more a fan of the earlier stuff. I looked at ADB's site and like booster#91, but no mention of the counters?

Are they included?

It is really too bad that ADB did not include counters for the Fed CA ect, it looks as if I will need to buy Klingon Border as well, to get the counters! :(
