Fed NCA/NCL question

I purchased Fed Fleet Box #1 (0200), and noticed the saucers of the NCA and NCL vary in height going from port to starboard. Specifically, the port side of the saucer is about 1mm tall, while the starboard side is 2mm tall.

I'm just wondering if this is normal, or whether I received a dud?

Regardless, I'm glad I got these miniatures

Wanted to back in the '80s, but my parents were paranoid about the lead used back then.

Good eye you have. I have couple that I have not finished yet, but I went and looked at them and - sure enough they do vary slightly from side to side just as you describe.

I would blame that on wartime production, I bet the federation was in such a hurry to turn out new ships and get them into the fight that such things didn't matter.

Not holding one in my hand right now, I am willing to bet it is a anomaly of spincasting. If you looked at other minis I am sure you would notice similar oddity. It trace back to metal flow and gate locations in the molds.

All in all I have to cut ADBs production methods a break. For the quanity they produce it is the most reasonable and cost effective way togo. I work in a Plastic Injection facility but the expense in going that route really only becomes piratical when you make hundred of thousands of cycles.

Check the legacy board about the new Starline 2500.

And what shall I do with the 4 or 5 hundred painted, 2 to 300 prepped and primed, and 3 to 400 unopened Starline miniatures sitting in my workroom now???

It's not too many... I just want the new ones. Did you see the image of the proposed first release in the Starline 2500 series?

You know Tony, that Mongoose plans on releasing limited editions of some ships. That may mean you won't need a dozen Fed CA minis, just a bit of patience.

Patience! Patience I got. What I don't gt is new Starline 2500 minis, so give them to me.Now!

Besides, If I decide to wait for that limited edition CAD, they'll decide to release a D7D instead...

Now to establish a secret "slush" fund so that when LE ships are announced, I can immediately order them.
Hmmm... I wonder If I could open a Christmas Club account and then convince my wfe to forget about it when Christmas rolls around and she wants to plunder it...
