There's a new topic on the legacy board. Finally there will be a Battle Group article for Federation Commander. The only thing is that it has to be on the legacy board so that we know who you are and the posts cannot be edited.
Here's the link: http://www.starfleetgames.com/discus/me ... 1323147985
I really hope you will all participate. This is a good way to test your skills. The SFB players seem to regard it as a challenge that is well worth the time.

Yup. The rules for the battlegroup are posted at the top of the thread, but I'll summarise them here:
Design a fleet following these rules:
- 500 points to spend
- One ship with a move cost of 1.5 (dreadnought or heavy dreadnought, basically)
- Any other ships you want to buy as long as the move cost is 0.25 or 0.5 (frigates or destroyers, pretty much).
- all ships from one Empire
- Ships from Border/Attack products and you may use ships from Captain's Log, CL Supplemental, or Communique if you wish (but don't have to).
You have until 31 December to submit your force. On 1 January, the scenario and the opposing force is revealed. Your mission is then to write a brief tactics article (A quarter page to half a page) describing your tactics using your force. You then have until the end of January to submit that (BY EMAIL! [emphasis]) to Steve Petrick.
If you do choose to participate, please read the rules carefully and follow them because it makes Steve Petrick's job a lot easier if you do.
There's two battlegroups posted already, one Klingon and one Romulan. Please join in!

Are there any givens about the scenario - e.g will it definately be on a standard map, or might be it be on any size map? If you choose a plasma are you guaranteed a location map even if the scenario has no location, and if so what size is the map that can float around the location?
Is the scenario always going to be basically kill the other guy, or is there any reasn to think of ships that have plenty of labs/transporters/shuttles/cargo for other types of scenarios.
PS - I know nothing of the SFB thing this is based off, so sorry if the questions seem daft.

That's pretty much typical of these types of articles.* The scenario this Battle Group is tied to will be revealed at a later date.
You have to design a flexible task force within the limits set, since you do not know who you're fighting or what the stakes are.
It may be an open space battle...
It may be a defend the base/convoy scenario...
It may be a monster scenario...
You should have a balanced force with labs 9in case of monsters), transporters (in case you need to evacuate a site), and fire-power in case you need to attack / defend.
Good Luck.

There is nothing known at this point about the scenario. You could post and ask those questions of Steven Petrick who is in charge of gathering up the information and verifying that all is well and what you have proposed is legal. He doesn't come to this Forum often, so posting on the BBS might be a Good Thing.

I did read it, but having no background on the SFB thing I wasn't sure that meant it was just a case of you will be paired against someone elses fleet (and it was whom that would be later revealed) in a tourney style kill the other guy game or that it might be any thing at all including non-combat, on any kind of map, with any kind of terriain.Scoutdad wrote: Lee: The first line of hte request on the BBS is:* The scenario this Battle Group is tied to will be revealed at a later date.
Not that I'm entering, I was just interested.
PS - posted here as I haven't registered on the other site and have no real interest in doing so.
[edit] Andros can participate, but they must take a dominator, and have no points left for any sattelites (beyond energy mods). Interesting.
